Open Letter to Paul Carter, Leader of KCC

BOROUGH  GREEN TRAFFIC ACTION GROUP

Chairman: Mr Tim Shaw                                                                                  Agent  Mike Taylor

Cllr Paul Carter, Leader, Kent County Council

Borough Green & Platt Bypass

Dear Cllr Carter,

You may well be able to guess our extreme disappointment at the simultaneous loss of the economic benefits of the new Celcon Factory, and the traffic benefits of our Bypass. However, I think it is important that we do not descend into a witch-hunt, but use the hard won experience of the past years to guide our way forward.

Those years of campaigning have not been wasted. During the recent public inquiry a consensus has slowly emerged amongst all local communities in favour of the Bypass, and you may shortly see the beginnings of an alliance between the four Parish Councils and the action groups who were previously pitted against each other.

During those same years, the mood and policy within KCC, both Members and Officers, has also shifted towards that same consensus of support for the Borough Green & Platt Bypass.

I urge you to lead both KCC and the communities by launching a new planning application for the Bypass immediately, and tasking the appropriate departments of your authority to obtain funding for the Bypass. We have often been told that funding cannot be found within the Council, but I am sure that in this new era of cooperation there are ways that this could now be achieved.

KCC have the chance, if it acts swiftly, to turn this debacle into a positive new beginning of a short process that will give the residents of our communities relief from the horrendous traffic that has plagued us for decades, and will give KCC the opportunity to fulfil its promises to us.

Yours truly,

Mike Taylor                        Borough Green Traffic Action Group
